The first step to a successful surface prep project is identifying the surface profile of the concrete. What is a Concrete Surface Profile? Concrete Surface Profile is a measure of the surface roughness defined by the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI). Concrete surface profile range from 1 to 10 with 1 being the smoothest and 10 the roughest.
Shot-blasting propels steel shot against the concrete surface by means of a wheel. The impacts of the shot pulverize concrete and contaminants and roughen the surface. Spent shot is separated from waste products and recycled. Shot-blasting is a preferred method for cleaning and profiling horizontal surfaces and has the same applications as abrasive blasting.
