High-Build Epoxy
Epoxy provides strong adhesion, build and design flexibility for many indoor commercial and industrial floors. It is often used as a primer or body coat in multi-layer systems.

No single resinous floor is right for every operation. The specification should reflect the concrete, traffic, chemicals, cleaning routine, desired appearance and available shutdown time.
Akron facilities may need coating systems designed for oils, rubber residue, process chemicals, rolling loads, sanitation or defined pedestrian routes. Some floors require removal of old epoxy and mastic before a new system can be installed; others need a fast-turnaround finish in an active operation.

Polyaspartic coatings offer rapid curing, strong color retention and UV stability. They can be used as pigmented coats, clear finishes or durable topcoats where return-to-service matters.
Decorative vinyl flake creates a multi-color seamless finish that helps disguise visual variation and everyday soil. Commercial uses include service areas, locker rooms, corridors and clean workspaces.
Colored quartz aggregate creates a durable, textured surface for high-traffic or wet environments. Texture, broadcast rate and topcoat build are adjusted to the cleaning and traction requirements.
Aliphatic urethane finishes can improve abrasion, stain and color performance over compatible epoxy body coats. They are often selected for busy indoor commercial and industrial areas.
Metallic, dye-inspired and other decorative resinous finishes can create distinctive commercial interiors when appearance is a central part of the project.
Concrete coatings rely on a clean, sound and properly profiled substrate. Applying resin over weak concrete, oil, incompatible paint or a smooth unprepared slab can lead to avoidable adhesion problems.
Preparation may include degreasing, existing coating removal, diamond grinding, shot blasting, edge work, crack repair, spall repair and joint treatment. The method is selected according to the slab and the coating manufacturer’s required surface profile.
Review the slab, traffic, chemicals, temperature, cleaning program, finish expectations and available shutdown window.
Remove incompatible paint, coating, adhesive and contamination so sound concrete can be reached.
Diamond grind or shot blast the slab to create the required surface profile for the specified system.
Repair cracks, spalls, damaged joint edges and surface defects that would interrupt the new floor.
Install primers, body coats, broadcast media, striping and topcoats according to the approved scope.
Protect the installation while it cures, then release each area for foot or vehicle traffic at the appropriate time.

Commercial coating estimates should reflect the complete project rather than a generic price per square foot. Large open areas may be efficient to install, while edges, equipment, repairs and phased work can increase labor.

Neither material is automatically better for every project. Epoxy provides strong bond, build and design flexibility for many indoor systems. Polyaspartic coatings cure faster, retain color under UV exposure and are often used as topcoats or complete systems. Many commercial floors use both within a layered assembly.
Preparation may include degreasing, coating or adhesive removal, diamond grinding or shot blasting, edge work, crack and spall repair, joint treatment and vacuum cleanup. The required concrete surface profile depends on the selected coating system and slab condition.
Some systems can be selected for specific chemical exposures, but compatibility must be reviewed by chemical type, concentration, temperature and contact time. A generic epoxy is not automatically suitable for every process chemical.
Many cracks, spalls and damaged joint edges can be repaired before coating. Moving structural cracks may reappear, and active joints should be treated according to the floor design rather than simply bridged with a rigid coating.
Duration depends on square footage, removal, repairs, system layers, cure conditions, edge work and the shutdown plan. Small rooms may be completed quickly, while larger manufacturing or warehouse projects may be installed in phases over multiple work periods.
Traction can be adjusted with broadcast aggregate or traction additives. The final texture should balance slip resistance with the need to sweep, mop or auto-scrub the floor. Any smooth floor can become slippery when wet or contaminated.
Pricing depends on floor area, slab condition, removal, repairs, moisture, system thickness, decorative media, texture, line striping, edge work and scheduling. A site-specific evaluation is the most reliable way to develop an accurate scope and price.
Remove abrasive dry debris frequently, respond to spills promptly and use a compatible cleaner. Pads or brushes should match the floor texture. High-wear areas should be inspected so a protective topcoat can be renewed before the body coat is exposed.
